2011 K2 Skis – SIA Sneak Peek

Despite being the biggest ski company on the planet, K2 has it dialed on a level usually displayed by small boutique companies. 2011 brings a number of well-thought-out changes to the line, most notably the addition of rocker to almost every ski we care about.

On the freestyle/freeride Factory Team side, the 2011 K2 obSETHed is the one to watch, widening to 117mm underfoot with extended Powder Rocker in the nose and lower All-Terrain Rocker in a stiffened tail. Big lines, deep powder, and massive 160-foot front flips are all huddled around the campfire.

The 2011 Kung Fujas steps up to 102mm in the waist, with All-Terrain Rocker in the tip and tail—a great all-around choice for coast-to-coast action.

The John-Wayne-Gacy-themed 2011 HellBent gets fatter too, jumping up to 132mm underfoot and keeping its surfy full-rocker profile. All the above skis are available flat or with the SchizoFrantic pre-drilled inserts for the Marker Jester/Griffon Schizo binding, and feature removable tip rivets for attaching K2’s custom-cut climbing skins.

The K2 Silencer gets All-Terrain Rocker and an extra 5mm in the waist, while the all-new-for-2011 K2 Revival is a 90mm-waisted park ski with Jib Rocker—flat camber and 20% rocker at the tip and tail.

Ladies, you’ll enjoy similar width and rocker increases throughout: the K2 MissBehaved goes to a 102mm waist with a supa-sick new topsheet, and the K2 MissDemeanor jumps from 85mm to 90mm underfoot. These and the MissConduct all feature some sort of rocker (All-Terrain for the Behaved and Conduct, Jib for the Demeanor). No Schizo mount for the girls yet, though, just flat.

2011 K2 Backside Series

For les touristes, the 2011 BackSide Series brings rocker to every Side and most Back models. All but the unchanged, full-reverse-camber Pontoon (OK, it has a blue topsheet) have removable tip rivets and tail notches for K2 custom skins. Unlike the ever-widening Factory Team skis, BackSide Series dimensions for 2011 remain exactly the same as this year’s. The DarkSide features the most aggressive Powder Rocker in the tip, while every other model but the trad-camber BackUp receives the lower, shorter All-Terrain Rocker. Ladies, it pains us to say it, but the rad black topsheet of the GotBack is gone and has been replaced by a typical purple floral design. Then again, the GotBack and PayBack are now rockered, so you still have good reason to celebrate.
