cross country ski bootsIf you already have Nordic skiing boots and need to buy new bindings, you absolutely MUST know what system your boots are. Cross country ski binding systems are NOT interchangeable. Aren’t sure which XC binding system you have? Follow these simple steps.

For more information about the XC binding systems, check out Nordic Skiing Binding Types.

What You Need:

  • XC ski boot
  • Measuring Tape

Steps:

Step 1: Look at your XC boot’s sole. How many bars does it have?

0 Bars but 3 little holes – You need 3-pin bindings

1 Bar – Go to Step 2

2 Bars – You need SNS Pilot bindings

Step 2: Measure the length of the bar

1 inch / 2.5cm = You need SNS Profil Bindings

1 ¼ inch / 3.2cm = You need NNN Bindings or NIS Bindings

1 3/4 inch / 4.4cm = You need NNN-BC Bindings*

1 11/16 inch / 4.3cm = You need SNS XA Bindings*

*Since these measurements are so close, a second indicator is brand. If they are Salomon, you most likely have SNS XA system. If they are other brands like Alpina or Rossignol, you probably have NNN-BC.
