Currently in the great, wild, western state of Utah, it is illegal to enter any public body of water that flows over marked private property —that is if your un-permitted feet are specifically touching the ground.

Would you like to know more about how that fact really affects kayakers, fishermen and fisherwomen, hunters, tubers, and other people who like to use and play in public waterways?

Check out this article on access to Utah waterways on public land.

Laws are changing all the time, and they change according to the voice of those most passionate* about them. As it happens, the present Powers That Be have launched a program called America’s Great Outdoors initiative in an effort to see how the People would like to see Their land used.

Utah’s shot at the initiative is fast approaching.

It’s great to see more and more people becoming informed as to how public land use applies and affects each and all of us. It’s almost as great as spending time on that “public” land.

*Passion has many faces … like the painted face of a rabid soccer fan, the white beard that comes from a dawn patrol, or Benjamin Franklin (or whatever “face” they print on bonds, allocations, and the like).
